875 Engineers Say Where They Get Their Information

Marketers need to know where engineers go to get their engineering information.  We just ran a survey to get this information for you.

The survey focuses on the content preferences of engineers and went live on September 7th.  So far, 875 engineers have responded.  We will be presenting the full results in a webinar on Wednesday October 5th at 2:00 Eastern, so please sign up.

Here is a sneak peek at the early results:

There are some surprises here:

  • Digital publications are far and away the most popular source of engineering information. I know that there is a sample bias here (ENGINEERING.com is a digital publication and we asked our audience), but still….
  • Vendor web sites have a very strong showing, counted on by over half of all respondents as a source of engineering information in the last month. This can only be good news for vendors who have made their web sites a source of educational content.
  • Over 40% of engineers used social media to get engineering information in the last month. How do you reach those prospects?  Is it just through tweeting, Linkedin and Facebook ads?  Or are there ways to use social media to get your prospects to share your content with each other?
  • The rise of news aggregators like Google, Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, et al. has made them a disruptive force in the information landscape.

I will share more results from this survey with you over the coming weeks.  One of the things I’m looking forward to analyzing is the different behaviors for different age groups and job roles.  For example, do CXO’s really get their information from social media?

Stay tuned, and be sure to sign up for the webinar on October 5th..
